Tough, warm and weather resistant, our Alcan Quilted Jacket is ready for any adventure. The heavy-duty waxed-canvas shell is bolstered with ballistic nylon and insulated with PrimaLoft® Gold that keeps you warm, wet or dry. The exterior shell is made of heavy-duty cotton canvas that’s been thoroughly saturated with a special paraffin wax by England’s iconic British Millerain, a process used to treat fabric for water resistance since the early 1900s. While similar to our legendary oil finish Tin Cloth, this fabric is a slightly heavier and a bit more flexible. Quilted between this tough outer shell and the nylon lining is a layer of 60-gram PrimaLoft® Gold, the warmest and lightest synthetic insulation available. PrimaLoft got their start in the early 1980s making insulation for the U.S. military, and has been the industry leader in manufacturing high-performance synthetic insulations that mimic the properties of goose down ever since. What’s unique about PrimaLoft is that it retains 98% of its insulating ability even when wet, and much of it comes from recycled content, helping to keep plastic bottles out of our landfills. For added weather protection, a reinforcing layer of Cordura® ballistic nylon covers the shoulders and upper arms. Ballistic nylon, a tight, 2×2 basket-weave originally developed by DuPont® for WWII flak jackets, is renowned for its exceptional abrasion resistance and durability. This tough, midweight fabric has been treated with a double PU coating for even greater water resistance, so you stay dry even in driving rain. Our Alcan Quilted Jacket combines classic bomber-jacket styling with outstanding protection from weather and abrasion. The front zipper rides in a welted track backed by an interior storm guard to keep the wind out. Rib-knit cuffs and collar provide a custom fit and seal out the wind. For coverage while reaching, riding or bending over, the hem is a drop-tail design and the sleeves are an inch longer than standard. The rivet-reinforced, zippered front-hand pockets are lined with Moleskin, a thick sueded cotton from Britain’s historic Brisbane Moss, makers of warm, weather resistant fabrics for farmers and outdoorsmen for over 140 years. An interior zippered pocket keeps valuables secure during active or rough use.
